5 ways to light a fire in your career transition and get things started

Tired of feeling stuck and unhappy in your career. We’ve all been there. We make empty promises to ourselves about. Telling ourselves that we’ll start taking action on that career transformation we want next week, only to keep shifting the start date. There are likely to be valid reasons as to why you keep stalling, doubt and fear being very common. Well here are 5 ways you can light a fire in your career transformation and get things started:

1. Mind Mapping

Not knowing what you want or what it is you want to move towards, or not knowing where to start might be holding you back. Transforming your career can feel overwhelming. Go grab a pen and paper. Put ‘career transformation’ in the middle and start drawing your branches. Ideas, thoughts, action steps. Let your mind go wild. There is no wrong or right.

2. Get Clear On Your Vision

You can’t start started if you are unsure what you are starting the journey towards. Write a vision paragraph on where you want to be in 5 years, create a vision board, describe it to someone, visualise it. No matter what works best for you, just try to get clear on what it looks, feels and sounds like.

3. Understand Your Why

Reinforce your vision by getting really clear on your why. What is it you really want deep down? Is it about finding a new role with a higher salary, or is more freedom and feeling less stressed in your career and life that you truly want? What will keep you striving for your goals even on the hard days?

4. Make Your Goals Manageable

What are the goals and milestones towards reaching your vision? Write 3-5 goals and break those down into action steps. Ask yourself, will I really do these? Mitigate what might get in your way. Consider who can help you. Commit to least one small action every day, no matter how imperfect or small that action might seem.

5. Get Support

Working with a mentor or coach can be an excellent way to help you gain clarity and keep on momentum on action steps. Most people that find that they reach their goals much more quickly when they have worked with a coaches versus having attempted it alone.
